Notice to Mariners

Mariners are advised that the Erie Canal east of the Genesee River (Rochester) and all other segments of the New York State Canal System remain closed for navigation, due to high water and excessive flows caused by recent weather events and continued snow pack melting. The Erie Canal between the Genesee River (Rochester) and the western entrance of the Canal in the Tonawandas remains open. Closures on other portions of the Canal System are expected to continue until at least the week of May 23, 2011.
A revised schedule for opening sections of the Canal System will be developed once conditions allow the Canal Corporation to begin safely placing aids-to-navigation and water control structures necessary for navigation.
