NEW YORK STATE CANAL SYSTEM
NOTICE TO
MARINERS
Erie Canal
Lowered Water Level
October 23, 2007
Mariners are advised that the New York Power Authority (NYPA) will
be lowering the water level approximately 2 feet below typical
summer navigation levels, or one-tenth of one foot below charted
normal pool, upstream of Vischer Ferry (Lock E-7) on the Erie Canal
on Wednesday, October 24th. This will be done in order to modify the
fish passage on the dam. The water level will be lowered beginning
at 6:30 AM on Wednesday.
The NYPA anticipates that the water level will be returned to normal
in approximately 4 to 5 hours. Depending on weather and/or flow
conditions in the river the work may be cancelled and rescheduled by
NYPA. For more information, please call Ty Hinkley of the NYPA at
(518) 287-6343.
These temporary low water levels may affect some vessels docked at
marinas or private slips, in shallower water near shore.
