NOTICE TO
MARINERS
Erie Canal
August 18, 2006
Mariners are advised that the Erie Canal between Locks E-9 and
E-11 will re-open to traffic on August 19, 2006 at 7:00 AM. As of
that date, the entire New York State Canal System will be open to
navigation.
Mariners are advised that buoys are set in reach from Lock E-9 to
Lock E-11, but may be slightly off-station and also, mariners should
be watchful of the potential for debris in the channel. Mariners are
advised that water levels between Lock E-8 and E-16 may be slightly
lower than normal navigation pool.
The landside lock facilities at Locks E-9 to E-15 will not be
available for public use. Mariners will be locked through this area
but will not be allowed to disembark or leave their vessels in the
area, at this time. It is suggested that the lock operators be
consulted for advice on locations that are available for tying up.
Mariners are advised that the South Guard Gate at Indian Castle
is closed due to dredging operations. Mariners should use the North
Guard Gate.
Mariners are advised that the 48-hour mooring limit at Canal
Corporation walls and docks is reinstated, other than the
restriction listed above, and that mooring within the Waterford
Flight is again restricted to vessels having permission from the
Canal Corporation.
If mariners are unable to contact Lock Staff at Locks E-10 thru
E-15 by using Channel 13 or calling the lock house, they may be
