NOTICE TO MARINERS

Erie Canal
August 18, 2006

Mariners are advised that the Erie Canal between Locks E-9 and E-11 will re-open to traffic on August 19, 2006 at 7:00 AM. As of that date, the entire New York State Canal System will be open to navigation.

Mariners are advised that buoys are set in reach from Lock E-9 to Lock E-11, but may be slightly off-station and also, mariners should be watchful of the potential for debris in the channel. Mariners are advised that water levels between Lock E-8 and E-16 may be slightly lower than normal navigation pool.

The landside lock facilities at Locks E-9 to E-15 will not be available for public use. Mariners will be locked through this area but will not be allowed to disembark or leave their vessels in the area, at this time. It is suggested that the lock operators be consulted for advice on locations that are available for tying up.

Mariners are advised that the South Guard Gate at Indian Castle is closed due to dredging operations. Mariners should use the North Guard Gate.

Mariners are advised that the 48-hour mooring limit at Canal Corporation walls and docks is reinstated, other than the restriction listed above, and that mooring within the Waterford Flight is again restricted to vessels having permission from the Canal Corporation.
