Tolls, Passes and Permits

Recreational Canal Passes/Permits

All motorized recreational vessels passing through any lock or lift bridge on the Canal System must purchase either a Seasonal Pass, a Ten-Day Pass or a Two-Day Pass. The fee schedule is as follows:

New York State Canal System Two-Day, Ten-Day, and Seasonal Passes are available for in-person purchase at a number of sales locations: designated Canal System locks; Canal Corporation Section Headquarters (between 8:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.); Canal Corporation Headquarters (between (8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.); and at designated vendor locations. Passes can also be purchased through the mail by submitting the following application:

Note: Recreational passes purchased before the start of the navigational season are tentatively processed beginning April 1.

Commercial Shipping

Permit Fees

All commercial vessels navigating the Canal System must file an "Application for Canal Commercial Operator" with the Canal Traffic Agent.

The annual fees for commercial operators to navigate the Canal System are:

$750 tug and barges;
$300 per hire boat;
$30 per passenger capacity, for tour vessels with overnight accommodations;
$10 per passenger capacity, for hour dayliners.
